Shadejah Ritter

Q: Who is Shadejah? What do you enjoy most about working here? A: I am Shadejah Ritter, and I have worked with the Office of Management and Budget (0MB), St. Croix, for one year and two months. I enjoy working out at the gym and I own a poodle named "Koa" his name is of Hawaiian origin, and it means, "warrior," "brave one," or "valiant one" I received him as a birthday gift about two years ago. Working with the 0MB two of my most memorable events included, volunteering for Thanksgiving Lunch when we partnered with the Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands to offer meals to the less fortunate in both districts and I also assisted in wrapping Christmas gifts for children in the community, another great 0MB initiative. I also enjoy participating in Battle of the Agencies which to me helps to foster teamwork and togetherness among us. Q: What is your current position and primary responsibilities? A: I am currently employed as a PBX Operator/Receptionist and my main duties include answering the telephone, transferring calls, entering requisitions for vendors and greeting and directing visitors and customers visiting the 0MB St. Croix Office. Q: How did you start your career, and what led you to your current role? A: Prior to starting at 0MB I worked at VIVA for about two years during the COVID period. I heard about an opening at the St. Croix 0MB Office and decided to apply, I was offered the position in January 2025. Q: Looking ahead, where do you see yourself in the next few years? A: In the next few years, I see myself completing college and being promoted to a Budget Analyst position. Q: What accomplishments are you most proud of both professionally and personally? A: Although considered young, I do own my own home and a car and I am also planning to go back to college to complete my studies in criminal justice or something else. Q: What motivates you in your work? A: In addition to having to pay bills, I enjoy the company of my co-workers some of which are very close friends of mine. Q: Share a fun fact or hobby that others might not know about you? A: I do have a creative and artistic side which includes special effect make-up. I once did make-up for a drama show, maybe that's another reason why I love Halloween. Q: If you won a trip to anywhere around the world, where would you go and why? A: I would like to travel to Greece or Bali, I think they are the most beautiful places in the world, and they are also so clean. Q: What advice would you give to someone starting in your role? A: Always keep cool and take a breath when you need too. Sometimes you interact with customers who may be frustrated or just having a bad day or they may have called the wrong agency, do not respond in a hash tone of voice. Take a breath and double-up on politeness even if it is not reciprocated.
