Ashuna Alexander

Born on the beautiful island of St. Thomas and raised in New York City, Ashuna Alexander, has been shaped by the diverse cultures, communities, and perspectives she encountered throughout her life. She attended the University of the Virgin Islands, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Her educational background has strengthened her understanding of people, communication, and the importance of compassion and support. Ashuna describes herself as dedicated, compassionate, hardworking, and passionate about helping others. She believes in giving her best in everything she does while continuously seeking opportunities to learn, grow, and become a better version of herself. Ashuna was recently promoted to the position of Procurement Analyst with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), transitioning from her previous role as a Grants Processing Assistant. She began her new position in September 2026. In her new role, Ashuna assesses, plans, coordinates, and prepares purchase requests while ensuring compliance with applicable policies and procedures. She also evaluates contracts for potential risks and develops specifications, requirements, and guidelines to support effective and compliant procurement processes. Before joining OMB, Ashuna began her professional career with Wyndham Hotels in the timeshare industry, where she spent approximately two years working in the Contracts Department. Her responsibilities included processing and reviewing timeshare contracts after purchases were made, handling deposits, reviewing customers’ credit, and ensuring they met the necessary requirements and demonstrated the financial ability to maintain their monthly payments. This experience helped her develop strong skills in reviewing financial information, processing documentation, paying close attention to detail, and ensuring compliance with established guidelines. After two years in the private sector, Ashuna began thinking more seriously about her long-term career and retirement goals and decided that she wanted to transition into government. When she discovered an opportunity with OMB’s Federal Grants Management & Compliance Unit, she immediately recognized how her previous experience could transfer into the position. The connection between her background and the responsibilities of the role ultimately led her to OMB. Looking toward the future, Ashuna sees herself continuing to grow both personally and professionally. One of her major goals is to return to school to pursue a master’s degree and eventually earn a PhD in Clinical Psychology. She hopes to build a career that allows her to use her education and passion for psychology to help others and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. At the same time, she plans to continue growing her business, Luxury Lash Core LLC, with the goal of creating something successful and sustainable that provides financial independence while allowing her to pursue something she is passionate about. Ashuna views her current role in government as an important part of the journey toward the career and future she ultimately hopes to build. Among the accomplishments she is most proud of is earning her degree. For Ashuna, completing her education represents dedication, discipline, and a commitment to investing in her future. It also reflects her passion for understanding people and helping others. On a personal level, she is proud of the woman she has become and the growth she has experienced throughout her journey. She has learned to challenge herself, step outside of her comfort zone, and keep moving forward even when faced with challenges. Building her own business is another accomplishment she takes pride in, as it has allowed her to explore her entrepreneurial side and create something of her own. Outside of work, Ashuna loves to travel and cook. Traveling gives her the opportunity to experience new places, cultures, and foods while creating unforgettable memories. She also enjoys cooking because it allows her to be creative and bring people together. She loves trying new recipes, experimenting with flavors, and seeing others enjoy something she has prepared. If she could win a trip anywhere in the world, Ashuna would choose Greece. She has always wanted to experience its breathtaking scenery, rich history, and vibrant culture. Visiting destinations such as Santorini and Mykonos, enjoying the food, exploring the architecture, and taking in the beautiful views would make it a dream trip. For Ashuna, it would be an opportunity to relax, explore, step away from everyday life, and create lasting memories. For someone starting in her role, Ashuna’s advice is simple: pay attention to detail, ask questions, and never be afraid to learn something new. She encourages others to understand the “why” behind a process rather than simply completing a task. She also emphasizes the importance of building positive relationships with coworkers, communicating when something is unclear, and keeping track of deadlines and requirements. Most importantly, she reminds new employees to be patient with themselves. There is a lot to learn, and becoming confident in a new role takes time. Ashuna’s journey reflects determination, continuous growth, and a commitment to creating a meaningful future.
