Onii Jackson

Onii is the kind of person who prefers working behind the scenes, focusing on getting things done rather than talking about herself. However, if asked to describe who she is, she would say she is a mother first, an information technology professional, a leader, and someone who believes in showing up every day and delivering results. Born and raised in St. Croix, Onii later moved to St. Thomas, where she continued her education and eventually earned a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology from the University of the Virgin Islands. Her passion for technology, combined with her commitment to helping others, has shaped both her career and her approach to life. What Onii enjoys most about working at OMB is the people. She values the opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated team committed to serving the Virgin Islands. Every day presents new challenges, and she enjoys solving problems and helping colleagues work more effectively through technology. The dynamic nature of her work keeps her engaged and motivated. Since joining OMB in 2024, Onii has served as the Senior Network Systems Specialist. In this role, she oversees a broad range of technology-related responsibilities, including network infrastructure, servers, cybersecurity initiatives, user support, hardware and software deployments, vendor coordination, and technology planning. As she jokingly notes, whenever a computer, printer, phone, server, network, or system decides to have a bad day, it usually finds its way to her desk. What she enjoys most about her position is the constant opportunity to learn, adapt, and solve new challenges in an ever-evolving technological landscape. Onii's path into technology was not a straight one. While attending college, she explored several fields of study, beginning in Criminal Justice before transitioning to Business Administration and ultimately discovering that Information Technology was where she truly belonged. After graduating from UVI in 2019, she began building her professional experience through positions that allowed her to support systems, applications, and end users. Those experiences provided a strong foundation for her current role at OMB. Looking back, she is grateful that she trusted her instincts and pursued a field that combines problem-solving, creativity, and continuous learning. Looking toward the future, Onii hopes to continue growing both professionally and personally. She aspires to move into higher-level leadership positions where she can contribute more significantly to technology strategy, organizational improvement, and innovation. She also remains committed to expanding her knowledge through certifications, training opportunities, and new experiences, recognizing that effective leaders never stop learning. Most importantly, she wants to continue building a meaningful career while creating opportunities and a brighter future for her family. Among her many accomplishments, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology stands out as a significant milestone. As a first-generation college graduate, this achievement holds special meaning for her and her family. Beyond her academic success, Onii is proud of the diverse experiences that have shaped her journey. She has served in the National Guard, worked as a Police Officer, built a successful career in Information Technology, and taken on leadership roles within her community and professional organizations. Yet, of all her accomplishments, she considers being a mother her greatest achievement. Raising her son and helping guide him into adulthood is a responsibility she embraces with pride and purpose. Her greatest source of motivation is her son. Everything she does is driven by the desire to create opportunities and a better future for him. She is also motivated by the satisfaction that comes from solving problems and helping others. Whether addressing a technical issue or finding solutions to complex challenges, she enjoys being someone others can depend on when they need support. Outside of work, Onii has a passion for reading. While many people know her as a technology professional, few realize that she can spend hours immersed in a good book. Her reading interests range from leadership and personal development to fiction and inspirational stories. One of her recent favorites is Do It Anyway: Don't Give Up Before It Gets Good by Tasha Cobbs Leonard, a book that resonated deeply with her message of perseverance, faith, and continuing forward even when the path ahead is uncertain. If given the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world, Onii would choose Thailand without hesitation. She is fascinated by the country's culture, history, cuisine, and natural beauty. One experience she hopes to have someday is visiting an ethical elephant sanctuary, where she can observe and appreciate elephants in their natural environment. She also looks forward to exploring the beaches, learning about local traditions, and capturing countless memories through photography. For anyone beginning a career in information technology, Onii offers simple but valuable advice: don't take everything personally. She understands that IT professionals are often contacted only when something is not working, so it is important to separate the problem from the person and focus on finding solutions. She also encourages newcomers to stay curious, ask questions, and commit to lifelong learning. In her experience, the most successful people in technology are not necessarily those who know everything, but those who are willing to keep learning, adapting, and figuring things out as the industry evolves. Through her dedication, resilience, and commitment to service, Onii continues to make a meaningful impact both at OMB and within her community.
